Electric Gin, Scotland

Untitled 10.jpg

Archroous Gin; meaning colours or achromatic is quite an enigma, the bottle itself is full of spark and contemporary, whereas the gin is stripped back to its core components. Comprising a mix of 7 botanicals, this gin stands out both for its bottle and for its flavour.

Leith is fast making itself known as a global hub of world class distillation and spirits. This is down to two factors, the history of distilling (especially of whisky) in the region and more recently the generation of graduates from Heriot Watt University. This generation is pushing styles and botanicals used within gin that has not been seen before. Archoous Gin from Electric Spirit is no different, founded by Heriot Watt alumni and using design styles inspired by Edinburgh.

On the nose this is a big spicy gin, showcasing the Sichuan Pepper and fennel. However, as the gin opens up on the pallet the juniper becomes the star. For the finish, the flavours combine to showcase a gin that in comparison to last month’s Arc is simple yet elegant, but still sets itself apart in an increasingly busy field.

Beyond the standout colour of Archoous the bottle itself is made exclusively of recyclable materials. You’ll also find tonic from Walter Gregor one of Scotlands’ very own tonic manufacturers, ginger beer and an exclusive Ginsanity Bottle opener.
