Inverroche Amber Gin, South Africa
Our members spoke and we listened! One of our questions on our annual survey was which gin would you like to see as part of the box and Inveroche came up more than once. This should have been no surprise to us given the success of Pienaar & Son last year.
Inverroche is six years old and based out of Still Bay on the Western Cape, the distillery is at the forefront of the growing South African spirits scene. The name Inveroche translates to the confluence of water and stone, which matches the terroir and fynbos (fine bush) of the Western Cape. The Fynbos is a small belt of heathland located on the Western Cape with encompasses a wider range of flora than the whole of the United Kingdom. Many of these Fynbos botanicals can be found in the Inveroche gin range including Tortoise Bush, Sour Fig & Honey Bush.
Of the three core gins, we have chosen their Amber edition to be part of this months box. The Amber gets it colour not from the botanicals but from the liquid infusion of the botanicals within the gin. Unlike London Dry gins where the botanicals are vapour infused into the gin, the liquids and oils of the botanicals are extracted and infused directly into the Amber Gin. The final juice is Rich & Aromatic.
This is a truly Western Cape of South African box, with tonics from the Swartland of the Western Cape paired with a tradition South African snack; droëwors. Keep an eye on our social media for some special South Africa gin tasting events!
