For the first time in a long time we have bought in a gin inspired by our travels. Royal Sedang a French/Vietnamese collaboration is seen through the life of Charles Marie de Maurene - a French man who convinced local tribes in Southern Vietnam to form the Kingdom of Sedang with himself as King. His self proclaimed monarchy only lasted two years before he succumbed to either a snakebite or poisoning.

Every cloud has a silver lining and for Bruce, founder of this months gin the start of the pandemic enabled him to start Purist Gin. Bruce had become jaded with some of the flavoured and diluted gins that were becoming popular and wanted to create a classic gin that would cut back to the heart of it. Purist Gin is a throwback to the single shot method in his preferred in London Dry style gin.

The traditional South African big five are lions, leopards, rhinoceros, elephants, and buffalo. Kaiza 5 however is inspired by head distiller, Keegan Cook's favourite 5 botanicals; Grapefruit, Blackcurrant, Coriander & Angelica Root. Add Juniper to this mix and you have a unique New Western dry gin. You might consider that this gin would be bold and sweet, but we found it to be balanced & mild, yet somewhat exotic and unique.

One of the things we pay more attention to now than we did three years ago is what the base spirit of the gin is. Not to say one style is better or more enjoyable but anything with a grape base (see Sing Gin as well) usually has a smooth almost silky mouthfeel. Hexagone from Languedoc Roussillon in France uses a variety of high end wine grapes to make the base of their gin.

Every so often a gin comes onto the market that starts to pick up a few awards here and there, but rarely does momentum carry on until you win best in class at the San Francisco. Of the 3800 entries only a select few win this prestigious award - this is like winning best actor at the Oscar’s (without slapping down the host!).

Sado Gin pronounced 'Say-Dough' is distilled in 200 bottle batches using the Hojicha roasted green tea from Japan, grown in the Okumikawa region on a single small estate that also grows tea for the Emperor of Japan. 'Sadō' is a Japanese word meaning 'The Way of Tea' and refers to the ancient Japanese tradition of tea ceremonies.

This may be our most historic gin yet, we certainly think it is the oldest distillery we have introduced. Founded in 1898 in the capital of Estonia, Tallin, Liviko produces a wide range of drinks and beverages including vodka, liqueurs and of course gin.

As such in 2010 the Rodionov family set up the Rodionov & Sons distillery in Poland to recreate this historic spirit. Polugar no.10 takes this one step further making what is believed to be the first bread-wine gin, using traditional gin botanicals as well as botanicals found in the Siberian Taiga.

Craft is at the heart of everything Sing Gin. The gin is a nod to the history of the spirit and provenance of Yorkshire. It's hard not to be inspired by the Yorkshire Dales and this beauty if reflected in the bottle by the Gargoyle logo featured at the Fountains Abbey.

Yukon Brewing started life in 1997 as Chillkook Brewing Limited named after the famous golf rush of the Yukon. The first aim of the brewery is to provide great drinks (and jobs) to an under served part of the world.

As you can imagine the star of this gin is the Darjeeling Tea. This tea is known as the Champagne of Teas and the precise far the first flush tea (first picketing of the season) can be found on the Goomtea Estate in the West Bengal region of India.
